Equipment is excited to present a whole new level of quality for
high efficiency condensing boilers! Mestek (Owner of RBI,
Smith, Hydrotherm, and many other HVAC related companies) has
completed a long and careful process by which they have 5 years of
R&D and field application testing with a new high efficiency
condensing boiler.
What makes this boiler
different from the others is that this boiler is a true CAST IRON
boiler. Would you expect any less from a company anchored by
one of the world's oldest and most respected cast iron boilers
(Smith aka HB Smith)? Most condensing boilers suffer a deficiency in
life expectancy based on materials such as thin steel or copper.
Condensation is highly acidic and can do a great deal of damage
quickly to such materials. Limited life spans are inherent to
condensing boilers, but now Mestek has found a way to give your
customers the efficiency available in this era with the durability
of the old 'workhorse' cast iron boiler of years past!
The boiler is completely
packaged and assembled incorporating a TRUE FLOW matching air ratio
gas valve modulating system (Linkage-less) which will give you a 4:1
(Some models 5:1) standard turndown in key sizes such as 600MBH,
1000MBH, and 2000MBH inputs.
"This boiler is one of the
most impressive boilers I've seen come out in the last 15 years! "
said Grant Roberts President of RME. " In a time when we are
seeing manufacturers find anyway they can to hold heat in the
exchanger of the boiler to maximize the efficiency, we have never
seen a boiler like this in cast iron. The passages are large,
the material is cast, and the controls are non proprietary. It
runs whisper quiet and actually has a smaller footprint than many of
the new designs I've seen out there." continued

Other
condensing designs use a coiled small passage water tube exchanger,
or secondary exchangers with internal pumping to achieve higher
efficiency. Some are of the smaller firetube design with very
small bends which may not be accessible for cleaning.
The KN Series
boiler was engineered and developed by Ken Coehn a pioneer in the
boiler industry. The boiler only requires that the return water is
liquid and does not have a minimum return temperature
requirement. In fact, they are so confident in the design,
they have a 21 year warranty against thermal shock. The cooler the
return water the higher the efficiency rating.
Roberts said in
closing; "While new manufacturers pop up each year, it's refreshing
to see a dominating manufacturer keeping up and spending valued time
and resources to develop new technology. Best of all, unlike
the unknown companies breaking into the market place from Canada and
other areas, Mestek (Westfield, MA) has the financial backbone (250
Million Dollar Corporation) to make this another dominant product in
the market place (Much like RBI's new Futera III, and Smith's new
28HE cast iron boiler). You can only accomplish this with
impeccable support, continued R & D, and the willingness to make
every situation right without concern for cost based on limited
resources! You aren't going to find this with the 'copy cat
companies' coming out today. There's no way they have the
resources to fund such support."
