The standard he set
Service was personal.
Before founding Roberts Mechanical, Grant Roberts Sr. spent 35 years as a service manager for another representative firm. Customers knew him as the person willing to crawl through a mechanical room, find the real problem, and stay with it until the equipment was operating properly.
When that firm stopped offering field service, Grant Sr. chose not to walk away from the customers he had spent a career supporting. In 2002, he founded Roberts Mechanical Equipment as a service company built around responsiveness, technical knowledge, and genuine care for the people behind every job.
His reputation for kind, dedicated service was second to none.

Grant Roberts Jr. began learning the boiler business at 14, spending his summers helping his father open, clean, and inspect firetube boilers. He later spent nearly a decade in the field, becoming a master combustion technician before moving into technical sales.
After Grant Sr. passed away unexpectedly in 2004, Grant Jr. left his sales position to complete his father’s book of work, support his family, and steady the young company. His mother, Joyce Roberts, changed careers to run the accounting, while his sister, Christina Roberts, continued the work she had begun alongside their father in 2002. His brother, Gene, a successful entrepreneur and owner of several businesses, played a major role in guiding the business side after Grant Sr.’s passing. Gene’s counsel helped Grant Jr. grow RME from its service-company roots into a full manufacturers’ representative firm with a strong service organization still at its core.
By 2006, that commitment and growth earned Roberts Mechanical recognition in the Case Western Reserve Weatherhead 100, where the company finished as the area’s third-fastest-growing startup. Today, Grant Jr. remains RME’s active owner and leader.

A voice at the table.
Early in his leadership of RME, Grant Jr. made strong manufacturer relationships a priority. His perspective earned him seats on representative councils for three of the company’s largest manufacturers—advisory groups that bring field experience directly to factory leadership. He was quickly elected president of two councils and now leads those meetings.
For RME customers, that influence has practical value. It gives Grant a direct channel for raising common application and service issues, helping manufacturers understand what contractors and owners are experiencing, and securing the right factory support when a job needs it.

A legacy still growing.
Grant Sr. would have good reason to be proud. His children carried his work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit into their own paths. Grant Jr. built Roberts Mechanical; Gene has successfully owned and developed a series of businesses; and Christina, after contributing to RME’s early years, founded a successful company teaching entrepreneurial business systems.
Joyce is now happily retired, living independently and remaining close to her family in Northeast Ohio. That legacy now reaches a third generation. Louis—Gene’s son and Grant Sr.’s grandson—joined the family business his grandfather started after finishing college. Grant Jr.’s son, also named Grant, worked at RME when he was young before exploring other opportunities. He later returned to the industry and now helps lead service operations for a large Northern Ohio contractor as a service coordinator and dispatcher.

The Walton Hills location includes private offices, a parts room, warehouse space, and a training center designed for both classroom instruction and hands-on technical work.
